What makes Us UNIQUE

Movability was created by two passionate Chiropractors, Dr. Ida Aghigh and Dr. Sina Yeganeh.

Movability was designed to fill a void in the healthcare world. We noticed a lack of truly custom and comprehensive care, we knew we had to be different to provide the best possible treatment. We set out to create a unique therapeutic experience built on empathy, trust, and unparalleled attention to detail. Our main goal is to ensure you live in a pain free and functional body, no matter what your circumstance. We spend the time to get to know the real you, your goals, dreams and expectations because you are much more than just a diagnosis. We work with you to create custom treatments that meet those expectations. At Movability there’s no such thing as one size fits all. Experience the difference for yourself.

Our Philosophy

As humans, we interact with the world around us through movement.
We live, we love, and we create whatever we put our minds to. Our ability to move freely and without pain directly affects our quality of life. At Movability we abide by 3 fundamental principles which capture the human as a whole and allow us to create the most comprehensive therapies possible.

Movement

Dysfunctional movement is at the core of most aches and pains. Injuries can cause changes in how we move or our dysfunctional movement can predispose us to injury. Movement is so vital, it directly affects our health, even at a cellular level. Regardless of our activity level, incorporating high-quality movement into the human body can drastically improve how we feel and how quickly we recover from injuries. Our team of human movement specialists assess your body's mobility, strength and control to create a treatment plan bespoke to you.

The Science Behind Movability.JPG

The Science Behind Movability

Movability was inspired by the body and how it responds to movement. We've known for years that movement is the best medicine, but now we have the research to back it up. Your neurology, body perception, elasticity and wound healing all have one thing in common...Movement & Fascia!

Fascia links our muscles, tendons and organs to our bone. It holds us together, gives us our shape and allows us to move; for this reason, we call it a connective tissue. Our fascia is so interconnected that you can find movement in the fascia of the neck when moving your lower leg. This is why when we experience pain in one area, the cause of that pain can often be found in a different area. It's vital to address the body’s entire movement pattern and fascia to FIX the root cause of our pain.

Just like the tensegrity shape in our logo, your body is held together by a tensegrity system. Tensegrity aka tensional integrity or floating compression is a structural principle commonly used in engineering and architecture. It describes the use of isolated components in compression inside a net of continuous tension, in such a way that the compressed members (the bones of your body) do not touch each other, and the pre-stressed tensioned members (fascia, muscles and connective tissue) delineate the system spatially. This means that our bones aren't really touching each other, they're floating inside the connective tissue or fascia, if you remove the connective tissue the bones fall to the floor. Our skeleton does not support our structure, our fascia supports the body structure, that's why even when the spine is worn down you can still stand straight.

In summary, none of your bones are actually connected to each other, they are held together by the tension created around your entire body via the fascia. To visualize this better, think about the inside of a grapefruit. When you peel a grapefruit, it's still held together by the thin white layer of fuzzy skin on the inside. If you peel that layer off, you'll see that the sections of the grapefruit maintain their wedge shape using more of that fuzzy white skin. The deeper you go into the grapefruit, the more small subsections you'll find with more delicate skin holding it together and eventually attaching it all to the core of the fruit. It's important to understand that every part of the body is encased in fascia and all fascia is interconnected. Fascia consists of water, hyaluronic acid, proteoglycans (molecules that help bind fluid to fascia) and connective tissue such as collagen.

Movement is vital to keep fascia healthy!

Why is movement so important? Because fascia has many diverse functions, it is made of fibroblasts and a matrix of collagen created by the fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are your body’s builder cells and have a healing effect. Fibroblasts close wounds and build new collagen, but too much collagen can be detrimental. When we become sedentary, we overgrow collagen, like a "fuzz" all over our body, making movement less fluid and more difficult. Lack of exercise results in overgrowth of fascia and a reduction in function. Consistent movement and maintaining good posture is key to keeping fascia fluid, so it doesn't compress nerves and muscles. Fascia also requires regular stimulation, so it doesn't deglutinate or dry out and become stiff. Desk workers suffer from stiffness and deglutination of their fascia which leads to back pain. Water is a crucial component to keeping connective tissue and fascia healthy because fascia is made up of 70% water. Fibroblasts help bind water to fascia by creating collagen and hyaluronic acid which is the lubricant for our body. The collagen and hyaluronic acid act as a wet sponge that helps keep you mobile and hydrated. Insufficient moisture makes connective tissue rough and brittle.

One of the world’s most common medical problems is back pain with 80% of people experiencing it throughout their lifetime. Researchers have discovered a critical zone in the low back where the fascia is very sensitive and can be a cause of pain for many people. This zone is called the thoracolumbar fascia, and it connects your shoulders to your hips. Many people suffer from chronic back pain and stiffness yet nothing shows up on their X-ray or MRI. Also, many people have terrible looking X-ray and MRI results but experience no pain. This is because X-rays and MRI scans ignore the fascia and the Movability of that person. Research shows that people who suffer from pain have less movement in their fascia. Movement reduces inflammation and speeds up the healing process by a mechanism calls mechanotransduction. Mechanotransduction refers to the way forces are felt by our cells throughout the body. At Movability we combine the forces of movement, manual therapy and acupuncture stimulate cells such as fibroblasts to grow, start the healing process and release chemicals that cause tissue relaxation.

Not only does fascia respond to movement but it also responds to biochemical molecules. Fascia can also contract and relax on its own independent of muscle and nerve stimulation. Fascia responds to molecules released during emotional stress. Slowly and sustainably, emotional stress causes tension and pain. When you tense up in your sleep it's not the muscles that keep you tense, muscles relax quickly, its the fascia that tightens around your entire body throughout the night, causing you to wake up curled into a ball.

Fascia also ensures that we have a feeling for our body or body awareness, otherwise known as proprioception. If you close your eyes, you will still know where every part of your body is located in space, and as you move, you can sense where your limbs are going without having to open your eyes. Fascia contains more sensitive nerve endings and more pain receptors than muscles. This is why it creates more pain than muscles as well. Connective tissue or fascia is so essential that it's actually considered our key sensory organ. Movability manual therapists ensure that you develop a deeper awareness of your body, how it moves and how to take control of it.

At Movability, our manual therapists use techniques to restore movement and hydration to your fascia and connective tissue to keep it healthy, mobile and pain-free. Movability treatments are designed to re-align collagen fibres and help your fibroblasts create more hyaluronic acid for lubrication. Movement is incorporated into our therapies to raise body temperature and further stimulate healing through fibroblasts. Movability also uses acupuncture to manipulate the fascia and cause your fibroblasts to expand and trigger the release of ATP which signals healing and pain reduction.

Now you understand what makes Movability genuinely unique and what you can do to keep your fascia healthy. We strive to keep up with the latest scientific research, update and evolve our manual therapy techniques as we gain new knowledge. This allows us to create the most comprehensive and genuinely custom treatments tailored to your specific needs. If you're living with pain, just know that there's always something you can do and we can help!
