Our Philosophy

Movement is how we engage with the world—it’s how we live, love, and create. The freedom to move without pain is essential to a life of quality and purpose. At Movability, we adhere to three core principles that capture the essence of the human experience, allowing us to design comprehensive, whole-person therapies. These principles guide every aspect of our care, ensuring that we address not only your physical well-being but your overall health and vitality.

Movement

At the heart of most pain lies dysfunctional movement. Whether injury alters how we move or poor movement patterns predispose us to injury, movement profoundly impacts our health—even at the cellular level. Incorporating quality movement into daily life is essential to how we feel and recover. Our team of movement specialists meticulously evaluates your mobility, strength, and control to design a treatment plan uniquely tailored to your body, optimizing your recovery and overall well-being.

Mindfulness

Understanding your body is empowering. At Movability, we ensure you leave with a clear understanding of why you’re in pain, our approach to addressing it, and how to prevent its return. By removing the uncertainty surrounding your condition, we help alleviate the anxiety that often accompanies pain. This knowledge allows you to stay present, acknowledge your body’s signals, and accelerate your recovery with confidence and peace of mind.

We take a comprehensive view of your health, going beyond symptoms to evaluate your physiology, internal health, and overall well-being. Using lab tests and collaborating with other specialists, we identify the root cause of your condition and ensure you fully understand it. This empowers you to take control of your health and actively participate in your recovery.

The Science Behind Movability.JPG

The Science Behind Movability

Movability is inspired by the body’s incredible response to movement. We’ve always known movement is powerful medicine, and now science confirms it. Neurology, body perception, elasticity, and wound healing all share one fundamental element: movement—and fascia. Fascia, the connective tissue linking our muscles, tendons, organs, and bones, shapes our body and allows it to move. It’s so interconnected that a movement in one area can impact another, which is why addressing the entire body’s movement patterns and fascia is key to resolving pain at its root.

Our bodies are supported by a tensegrity system—an architectural principle where isolated bones (under compression) are suspended within the continuous tension of fascia and connective tissue. This system allows us to move freely without our bones touching. Fascia is the true support structure of the body, holding everything together. Even when the spine deteriorates, fascia enables us to remain upright. Imagine peeling a grapefruit—the delicate skin and layers hold everything intact, much like fascia in the human body.

At Movability, we have a deep understanding of how your overall health and physiology can impact fascia. Systemic dysfunction, inflammation, and imbalances can overload your fascia, creating pain and limiting movement. Chronic inflammation or underlying health issues place significant stress on this connective tissue, contributing to dysfunction and discomfort. By addressing these physiological factors, we provide holistic treatment plans that restore balance, helping you move freely and recover faster, with a body that works in harmony from the inside out.

Movement is vital to keep fascia healthy!

Movement is key to keeping fascia healthy and functional. Fascia is composed of fibroblasts and a collagen matrix, with fibroblasts acting as the body's builders, responsible for wound healing and collagen production. However, inactivity leads to an overgrowth of collagen—forming a ‘fuzz’ that makes movement more difficult and less fluid. This can cause fascia to compress nerves and muscles, leading to stiffness and reduced function. Regular movement, hydration, and good posture are vital for preventing fascia from drying out or stiffening, keeping your body mobile and pain-free.

Fascia relies on continuous stimulation and hydration, as it is made up of 70% water. Fibroblasts bind water to fascia by producing collagen and hyaluronic acid, which act like a lubricating sponge for your connective tissues. Without adequate hydration and movement, fascia can become dry and brittle, leading to discomfort and restricted mobility—common issues for desk workers who often experience back pain from fascia stiffness. To maintain healthy fascia, staying active, hydrated, and maintaining good posture are essential steps to ensure optimal function.

Back pain affects 80% of people, and one critical area contributing to this pain is the thoracolumbar fascia, which connects the shoulders to the hips. This often goes undetected in X-rays and MRIs, as these scans ignore fascia and its role in movement. People with chronic back pain often have reduced fascia movement, while others with severe scan results may feel no pain due to healthy fascia. Movement plays a vital role in reducing inflammation and healing through a process known as mechanotransduction, where forces stimulate cells to start repair and relaxation processes.

Fascia responds not only to movement but also to biochemical signals, contracting and relaxing independently of muscle activity. Emotional stress triggers fascia tension, which builds gradually, often causing pain. Fascia, not muscles, is responsible for keeping your body tense during sleep. Additionally, fascia governs proprioception—your body’s awareness in space—while containing more pain receptors than muscle tissue, making it a key sensory organ.

At Movability, our manual therapists specialize in techniques that restore fascia health and mobility by rehydrating tissue and re-aligning collagen fibers. Movement is an essential part of our therapy, increasing body temperature and stimulating fibroblasts to produce hyaluronic acid for lubrication. We also incorporate acupuncture to release ATP, further accelerating healing and reducing pain. By using the latest research and evolving manual therapy techniques, we provide comprehensive, customized care designed to keep your fascia—and your body—healthy and pain-free.

Now that you understand the critical role fascia plays in your health, rest assured that there is always something you can do to improve your well-being—and at Movability, we’re here to help.
